We were incredibly proud to support the Liverpool Zoe’s Place Gala Ball as a Silver Sponsor on 13 February this year.

St Helens Town Centre Regeneration

As works continue to progress across the St Helens Town Centre regeneration programme, A&B Engineering is pleased to be supporting the delivery of several key elements within this major redevelopment scheme.

The wider project will transform the town centre through the introduction of a new hotel, residential accommodation, and a new Market Hall, alongside significant public realm improvements designed to create a vibrant and welcoming destination for residents, visitors, and local businesses.

In addition, construction of the new St Helens Bus Interchange is scheduled to commence this spring, with completion anticipated later this summer. The interchange will play an important role in improving connectivity and enhancing the overall transport experience within the town centre.

As we reflect on 2025, it has been a year full of good news, exciting milestones, and amazing events — none more memorable than last Thursday’s NWRCA, where we were absolutely thrilled to win the ESG Sustainability Award! ��

This award recognises our work on the Eden New Bailey project, delivered in collaboration with Bowmer & Kirkland Ltd. Our team was responsible for the full M&E package, playing a key role in creating a building that sets a benchmark for sustainability, energy performance, and ESG excellence.

Winning this award means so much to us — not just because of what the project represents, but also because of the hard work and dedication that went into the submission. Achievements like this require a huge amount of effort, coordination, and belief from everyone involved. We’re incredibly proud of what we accomplished, both technically and as a team

This milestone is both richly deserved and long overdue. Since joining A&B as an apprentice in 2003, Craig has consistently demonstrated what can be achieved through dedication, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Over the past two decades, Craig has embraced every challenge and excelled in each role he has taken on – from Site Manager to Contract Manager , Associate Director , and now Director . His leadership style is defined by hard work, integrity, and genuine care for people. Through this, he has earned the trust, respect, and admiration of colleagues, clients, and partners alike.

Craig’s appointment reflects not only his remarkable journey but also the values at the heart of A&B Engineering. A&B Delivers M&E Services for Manchester’s New Green Depot

A&B Engineering proudly supported Morgan Sindall in the transformation of the 107,000 sq ft former Beyer Peacock locomotive shed in Gorton into Hammerstone Depot —a state-of-the-art, low-carbon facility for Manchester City Council.

Our team was responsible for delivering all electrical and mechanical systems, including main power distribution, switchgear, cabling, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, and a smart Building Energy Management System (BEMS) network. A rooftop 920 kWp solar array, paired with battery storage, now enables on-site renewable generation and peak-demand management.

On the mechanical side, we installed energy-efficient HVAC systems across the workshops and offices, as well as a smart rainwater harvesting system with weather-based controls for the wash bay—significantly reducing potable water consumption.

Working within a live operational environment, our team carefully phased delivery to ensure minimal disruption. We also implemented a cathodic protection system to preserve the historic Grade II-listed steel structure—honouring the site’s industrial legacy while embracing future-focused engineering.

As part of our commitment to workforce development, we welcomed 14 PlanBEE Manchester apprentices during National Apprenticeship Week 2023. Guided by A&B staff, the students explored the site's sustainable M&E systems, gaining hands-on insights into low-carbon construction and smart building technologies.

The completed Hammerstone Depot now stands as a fully operational, sustainable hub—featuring EV charging, on-site renewables, real-time energy monitoring, and water-saving infrastructure—sensitively integrated into a heritage setting and built to support Manchester’s greener future.

A&B Engineering – Delivering Integrated Mechanical & Electrical Solutions

A&B Engineering proudly led the design and installation of complete mechanical and electrical services at Verdin House , in partnership with KIER Construction . Another successful Health Care scheme where our relationship goes from strength to strength…part of the historic Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, Cheshire . This Grade II–listed building has been thoughtfully transformed into a state‑of‑the‑art light surgery and cataract centre—blending modern clinical functionality with careful heritage preservation.

Project Overview

Verdin House dates back to the late 1880s and forms part of the wider Victoria Infirmary site—an institution deeply rooted in the healthcare history of Northwich. A&B Engineering was tasked with delivering a full M&E package that modernised the building for clinical use while safeguarding its historic character.

Key project features included

Two fully equipped operating theatres (general surgery and cataract)
A 4‑bed primary recovery area and 2‑bed secondary recovery suite
Consulting rooms, a treatment room, and a discharge lounge supporting rapid patient flow

Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Solutions

Reverse‑Cycle Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)

We installed two high-efficiency ASHP units to provide year-round heating and cooling for the theatre ventilation system. These compact, low-carbon units were installed in vibration-isolated and discreet plant areas to align with NHS sustainability targets while preserving the building’s aesthetic.

Medical Gas Infrastructure

A new medical gas system was designed and installed, including storage, pipeline distribution, and terminal outlets—all fully compliant with NHS standards. Routing was designed to be non-invasive, with most pipework hidden from view to protect historical interiors.

Heating and Domestic Water

Our team replaced the building’s old systems with high-efficiency boilers, new hot water storage, and optimised hydronic circuits. Upgraded controls and resilient plant configurations were introduced to meet peak demands in theatre environments.

Collaboration and Community Impact

We collaborated closely with the local NHS Trust, conservation officers, and Northwich-based suppliers. Local labour engagement was prioritised to boost community economic benefits, and all works were delivered with minimal disruption to hospital activity.

The transformation of Verdin House at Victoria Infirmary in Northwich reflects A&B Engineering’s commitment to engineering excellence, sustainable design, and heritage respect. By combining technical innovation with conservation-led delivery, we’ve helped establish a high-performance surgical centre in one of Cheshire’s most historically important healthcare settings.

In 2024 , our team at A&B Engineering installed a brand-new, energy-efficient heating system — just in time for the colder months. This upgrade not only ensures a safe, warm, and welcoming space for staff and visitors, but also strengthens the centre’s long-term infrastructure.

By reducing energy consumption and lowering running costs, we’re helping deliver real, lasting value to the local community.

Although the work was completed last year, it’s a project we’re still incredibly proud of — because at A&B, we’re committed to projects that make a difference, where our work improves lives, one building at a time .

Shaped by A&B: John Hughes' 13-Year Growth Story

John Hughes: A Journey of Growth and Commitment at A&B

John Hughes joined A&B Engineering in 2012, stepping through the door as an apprentice electrician after his original employer, McGoff & Vickers, went into administration. He needed a new placement to continue his apprenticeship — and what started as a fresh opportunity turned into a long-term career.

Over the next four years, John worked on site, qualified as an electrician, and completed specialist training in testing and inspection. But it wasn’t long before his ambitions began to grow.

In January 2017, John was invited into the design office for a one-month trial. Though he returned to site afterward, the spark had been lit. A few months later, he was offered a permanent place on the design team — and at the same time, he had already begun studying for a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Teesside University, completed in the evenings via distance learning.

By 2020, with the HNC under his belt, John progressed onto a BEng in Building Services Engineering at Liverpool John Moores University. This time, he studied via day release, attending university one day a week while continuing to work and train at A&B.

His final year brought yet another opportunity: the option to enrol onto an integrated master's programme. Backed by the support of A&B’s leadership team, John committed to two more years of study — a decision that culminated in May 2025, when he completed his MEng. He’s currently awaiting final classification, but with a calculated weighted average of around 79%, he’s hopeful for a First-Class Honours.

Looking ahead, John is now preparing his application for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status through CIBSE and MCIBSE. There are even early conversations about future research and further academic study — a testament to his drive and the culture of continual learning at A&B.

“It’s only when I stop and look back that I realise how far I’ve come,” John reflects. “I’ve been here more than a decade, and at every step, A&B have backed me.”

From apprentice to master's graduate, John's story embodies what’s possible when talent, opportunity, and support come together — and it's exactly the kind of journey A&B is proud to champion.

This striking residential development, delivered in partnership with our longstanding collaborators at Vermont Construction , is one we’re incredibly proud to be part of. Our team is responsible for the full mechanical and electrical services , with a strong focus on sustainability. From renewable energy systems to environmentally conscious materials, everything is designed to reduce environmental impact without compromising on quality or performance.

A special thanks to Project Manager Dave P. , whose guided site tour gave us real insight into the incredible progress made so far. His walk-through brought the building's future to life, showcasing the detail, care, and collaboration behind every milestone.

Another Bike Donation Through Our Access Initiative

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local people, we’ve continued to grow our Access Initiative — a bike donation scheme designed to remove transport barriers and empower individuals on their path to employment, independence, and opportunity.

Yesterday, through our Access Initiative and Repurpose programme, we donated another refurbished bike to the Liverpool Adult Learning Centre. The centre identified a local individual who will now be able to attend job interviews, appointments, and community services — all without transport being a barrier.

This is a simple gesture with a powerful impact. At A&B Engineering, we believe small changes can make big differences.

From Apprentice to Director: The Journey of Steve Prentice

At A&B Engineering, we take pride in the people who shape our success story. One such individual is Steve Prentice, whose career is a testament to hard work, resilience, and leadership. Today, Steve holds a Director role within our organisation—but his journey began on the tools, as a grassroots apprentice electrician with NG Bailey.

From his earliest days, Steve demonstrated an eagerness to learn and lead. He quickly progressed through a wide range of roles—Site Foreman, Estimator, QS, Planner, Project Manager, Director, and Business Owner. This deep and varied experience gave Steve a profound understanding of every facet of our industry, from project planning to client satisfaction.

Over the years, Steve has led teams of more than 200 people, delivered state-of-the-art healthcare facilities including a proton beam cancer treatment hospital in London, and overseen multi-million-pound data centre builds across Europe. His leadership helped shape £120 million projects, such as the Whiston and St Helens Hospitals, and he’s brought innovation to every role—like developing NG Bailey’s logistics centre, which streamlined the delivery of over 5,000 prefabricated service modules.

Steve’s approach to leadership is grounded in motivation, meticulous planning, and a client-first ethos. Whether he’s mentoring a young engineer or negotiating major subcontract deals, Steve believes in building relationships, upholding safety, and delivering excellence.

His global experience—working in France, Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands—brings an international perspective to our team, enriching our operations and vision.

Today, as Director at A&B Engineering, Steve continues to lead with integrity, guiding complex projects and future talent with equal dedication. His story is not just about rising through the ranks—it's about raising the bar for what great leadership looks like in construction and engineering.

A&B Engineering was proud to take part in the Build Your Skills Fun Day at Newsham Park—a vibrant community event that brought together families, industry professionals, and local organisations for a day filled with hands-on discovery and shared enthusiasm.

In partnership with Morgan Sindall Construction , Liverpool City Council , and the Liverpool Neighbourhood Connections Team , we helped deliver an event designed to introduce young people to the exciting world of engineering—through fun, practical activities that sparked curiosity and creativity.

Over 100 young people and their families came along to get involved, exploring the basics of mechanical , plumbing , and electrical engineering in an interactive and engaging setting. From wiring simple circuits to experimenting with tools, the day offered children a chance to experience the kind of work we do every day—and maybe even picture themselves doing it too, one day.

Our A&B Engineering team showed up in full force, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Their energy and dedication made a lasting impression on every visitor. Meet Niamh Connell:

Apprentice Building Services Design Engineer

Niamh joined A&B Engineering as an Apprentice Building Services Design Engineer and is already making an impression with her enthusiasm, dedication, and growing technical skills.

In her role, Niamh is learning to design the systems that keep buildings safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient—such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), fire protection, and increasingly, renewable energy technologies. She works closely with experienced engineers on a range of developments, including offices, schools, and hospitals, gaining hands-on experience and insight into how these systems are seamlessly integrated into modern buildings.

A key part of her apprenticeship involves using computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modelling (BIM) tools to create and edit layouts. Niamh is learning how to interpret architectural plans and technical specifications to ensure the building services she designs meet regulatory, environmental, and client standards. She’s also developing her knowledge of industry calculations like heat loss and airflow requirements to ensure designs perform effectively in the real world.

Each project brings new learning opportunities—from understanding how a heat pump functions to figuring out how to route pipework through complex structures. Niamh is also building her confidence through client meetings and taking ownership of her own drawings.

“Joining A&B is an amazing opportunity for me, and I’ve loved every minute of it so far. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. I’m excited to keep growing with the company and to see where this journey takes me.”

Access Initiative Rolls Out to Support Transport Equality

At A&B Engineering, we believe access should never be a barrier to opportunity. That’s why we’ve launched the Access Initiative — a new bike donation scheme aimed at helping individuals facing transport challenges, including those experiencing homelessness or transitioning out of care.

In collaboration with Merseyside Police and RYDE, the first phase of the initiative has seen the donation of five bicycles, with the first two delivered to The Wellspring Centre in Stockport. In 2024, we were delighted to welcome Rachel Manning to the A&B Engineering family. Rachel joined us as a Document Control Manager in our O&M (Operation & Maintenance) Department, bringing a fresh perspective and a strong passion for challenging industry norms. Shortly after joining, Rachel attended the Inspiring Women in Construction & Engineering event in London alongside all our lovely ladies—an experience that perfectly reflected her values and commitment to encouraging diversity within the industry.

Building Hope: Social Value support - Community Sponsorships

At A&B Engineering, we believe in the power of community and standing together in times of crisis. Our partnership with Casus Pax has enabled us to make meaningful contributions to humanitarian efforts in Ukraine—delivering essential medical support and preserving cultural heritage at a time when both are under threat.

One of our most significant contributions has been the delivery of a state-of-the-art X-ray machine to a pediatric hospital in the Zaporizhzhia region. Funded by A&B Engineering and Jared Vann, this equipment has strengthened the hospital’s ability to provide safe, effective care to young patients—bringing real, measurable impact to a community in need.

In addition to medical equipment, we have provided helmets, medic bags, and extrication tools to local paramedics, supporting them as they continue their heroic work under incredibly difficult conditions. Their resilience inspires us, and we are proud to play a part in ensuring they have the tools needed to save lives.

Looking ahead, we are focused on modernizing healthcare in the region through the digitization of ICU patient records—currently managed on paper. This transition will improve efficiency, enhance patient care, and strengthen medical infrastructure for the future. We welcome support and contributions to help bring this vital project to life.

Our partnership with Casus Pax has also led to the launch of a heritage preservation initiative. With leadership from Adam, a Contemporary Conflict Archaeologist, and in collaboration with local universities and institutions, this program is dedicated to documenting and protecting cultural sites in frontline areas. Race the Sun – Keswick Challenge Complete

Chasing the Sun for a Brighter Future

On Saturday 7th September 2024 , our incredible team took on the Race the Sun Lake District – Keswick challenge, all in support of Action Medical Research , a charity dedicated to improving the lives of sick and disabled babies and children.

Setting off at sunrise , we pushed ourselves through an intense day of physical endurance – cycling, hiking, and kayaking across some of the most beautiful (and demanding) landscapes the Lake District has to offer.

The adventure began with a 10-mile trek up Skiddaw , one of England’s highest peaks. It was tough going, but reaching the summit was nothing short of exhilarating. With tired legs, we moved on to the 40-mile cycle ride , navigating winding mountain roads and lakeside country lanes. Each event took over four hours , testing every ounce of our grit and determination.

We wrapped up the day with a 2.5-mile kayak across the stunning Derwent Water , crossing the finish line as the sun began to set – just in time.

Our team – Chris McElwee, Ste Hoy, Joe Carter, Craig Sanders, Ian Buxton, and Mike Hart – trained hard for this, spending the summer getting up at dawn to cycle to work and run hills around Old Swan. All that dedication paid off.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we not only reached but exceeded our fundraising target , raising £3,800 . In total, the event raised over £200,000 for Action Medical Research.

Your donations are making a real difference – helping fund critical research into premature birth, childhood disabilities, and rare, incurable diseases. This support gives families hope and helps bring medical breakthroughs within reach.

We are proud to announce that Ilyas Hamid joined A&B Engineering in 2024 as our Sustainability and Environmental Manager . This key appointment reflects our growing commitment to climate action, low-carbon design, and environmental innovation.

With a Master’s degree in Climate Change & Sustainability and a background in engineering, Ilyas brings both technical expertise and a genuine passion for driving meaningful change. His skill set perfectly aligns with our mission to embed sustainability at the heart of everything we do.

Based within our Design Department, Ilyas plays an integral role in delivering low-carbon building solutions. He contributes to our Thermal Modelling Team by developing SBEM calculations and producing Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for complex and sustainability-led projects.

A&B Engineering Secures M&E Contract for Echo Street Student Accommodation in Manchester

We’re excited to share that A&B Engineering has been appointed by Bowmer + Kirkland to deliver the full Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) design and installation for the Echo Street Student Accommodation project in Manchester!

Designed by Sheppard Robson Architects for IQ Students , this landmark scheme will provide 1,224 student beds across three interconnected towers rising to 12, 22, and 28 storeys —linked at levels 12 and 16 to enhance accessibility and community living. The development will offer a mix of 5- and 6-bed clusters alongside single rooms, setting a new benchmark for student living in the heart of the city.

Echo Street is a BREEAM Excellent project, with sustainability and energy efficiency at its core—values that strongly align with our own commitment to delivering high-quality, future-proofed solutions that make a positive impact.

We're especially proud that this project supports our ongoing efforts to recruit apprentices and new starters , drive local spend , and maximise social value in the Piccadilly and Greater Manchester areas.

Work commenced in Spring 2024 , with completion expected in early 2026 . We’re already making strong progress and are proud to contribute to another exceptional student accommodation development in our growing portfolio.

GRAHAM, working with Merseycare NHS Foundation have partnered with us for the Design and Installation of this state-of-the art Mental Health Facility on land at Mossley Hill. The 80 Bed facility will bring and end to the traditional shared dormitory style wards, by providing an alternative style mental healthcare solution, including : Single Bedrooms all with En-suite Bathrooms, Facilities that promote recovery such as family visiting, Multi Faith spaces and Therapeutic Light and airy environments including activity areas.

The £ 11 Million Mechanical and Electrical package will be designed and installed by us with Commissioning and completion in early 2024.

Another complex Health Care Project added to our portfolio in this sector.

Volunteering Day at The Whitechapel Centre – Liverpool

The Whitechapel Centre was started in 1975 to meet the needs of homeless people in Liverpool. This is still their main aim and they are committed to it, but they have learnt a lot since then, and are facing new challenges and they are continually adapting.

They now employ over 120 staff, have the support of over 60 fantastic volunteers and are governed by their Board of Trustees.

They have grown in scope, experience and professionalism and we have a reputation for the ability to get things done.

They believe it is essential to empower and enable people to live independently. They work with some of the most vulnerable, isolated and lonely people in our community. Their daily activity sessions build confidence, skills and capability. Their support workers prepare clients to take on a tenancy, deal with health issues or addictions, develop budgeting skills and move into suitable, good quality homes.

We spent a day volunteering at the Donations Drop Off facility where we helped pack orders and helped with the delivery of the orders to the local centres. It was an eye-opening experience and we are in awe of the great work and help that the Whitechapel Centre provides. We intend to continue helping and fund-raising where we can.

The Role of Beaches in the Ecosystem

Beaches are an essential part of humans’ lives. In addition to the range of recreational activities, they can also play a role in mitigating climate change. Beaches protect residents living near the Ocean by serving as a buffer against the high winds and waves of powerful storms and help drive economic activity important to nearby communities.

They also provide permanent habitats for various plants and animals. A lot of marine animals depend on the beach eco-systems. However, the naked eye can’t see many of them as they are millimetres small or buried in the sand. These are organisms that play an essential role in seawater filtration and nutrient recycling.

Some depend on the beach environment as a nursery area for fish fry or nesting sites and rookeries for turtles and birds. Higher up on the marine food chain, the beaches are a vital feeding ground for birds and terrestrial wildlife. Some marine mammals, such as sea lions and seals, also need a clean beach to rest, molt, breed, and give birth. They can also be lounging on the sand because they are warming themselves underneath the sun. It’s always a treat to share our beaches with other creatures that are part of the ecosystem and benefit from what beaches can offer.

This is why our team today took great pleasure in helping to clean Crosby Beach. Well done all in such wild and windy weather.

Congratulations to Andy Stanley and Ian Cooper on their recent triumph on their London to Paris Bike ride raising much needed funds for Maggies. 470km over 4 days is a tough challenge, starting in London a night stop in Calais, 2 nights in Amiens and a 3rd night in Chantilly before onto Paris for the final leg. As a team riding with our friends at Steven Hunt Associates, Gleeds, Hoare Lea, Tilbury Douglas and Liverpool Hospitals NHS FT. The event raised over £ 15,000.00 for Maggies Cancer Care.

Maggie was a writer, gardener and designer. When she was 47, Maggie was diagnosed with breast cancer and five years later, in May 1993, on a visit to the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, she was told that it had returned.

After hearing this, Maggie and her husband Charles Jencks were moved to a windowless corridor where they were left to process the news. They discussed the need for somewhere ‘better’ for people with cancer to go, outside of but nearby to the hospital.

Maggie and Charles designed the blueprint for the centres together, enlisting the help of some of their friends from the architectural world. The first Maggie’s opened in Edinburgh in 1996, and they now have centres across the UK and even some abroad.

We have secured the contract to Design and Install the complete Mechanical and Electrical services installation on this wonderful scheme being developed by Gary Neville’s Relentless Group. Working with Bowmer & Kirkland (B&K) they will build the first phase of the scheme, which comprises 185,000 sq ft of prime grade A office accommodation across nine floors. It also includes a new public realm and a rooftop restaurant with views across Manchester which can accommodate 900 guests.

Working in partnership with Hoare Lea we will design the scheme to deliver on key market leading sustainability objectives providing a building that is BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum and NABERS 5 star, a key performance metric moving forward in measuring the energy performance of buildings.’

A Magical Night at Clatterbridge Charity Midsummer Ball Sponsorship

There was huge support this weekend for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity’s Midsummer Ball (Friday 24 June), raising a massive £170,000 to support patients and research at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

Held at The Titanic Hotel’s Rum Warehouse in Liverpool, the Ball was enjoyed by 350 guests, who turned out to support the Charity and celebrate the return of the biggest event in its fundraising calendar after three years away.

Guests also heard about the Charity’s life-changing services for families which offers support and counselling to children whose parents have received a cancer diagnosis. The focus for fundraising for the night was to support future families and other innovations in care that are inspired by the expertise and experience of staff at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre who care for patients every day.

Wirral Growth Hub – Birkenhead

We have completed our Stage 4 Design on these two new offices in Birkenhead with an anticipated start date on site of July 2022.

The project is focused on office space at Birkenhead, which will be divided between two buildings. The larger of the two will be nearly 90,000 sq ft and be the new council offices. Up to 800 administrative staff will be relocating to the property. The smaller of the office buildings is 58,000 sq ft and will be let on the open market.

Both office buildings will be built to BREEAM Excellent standard and designed to achieve an EPC A-rating . They have already received the Wired Score Gold standard , which means they will have one of the best broadband and telecom infrastructure in the country.

The approved SDP also includes the construction of a primary sub-station at the rear of Europa Pools to future proof the area’s power supply.

The appointment by Morgan Sindall enables us to continue with our ambitious recruitment in long term apprentices and deploy many of our local workforce and suppliers on site.

The Castings in Manchester is a new build Residential development with a mix of 1 Bedroom, 2 Bedroom and 3 Bedroom Apartments with a total of 352 Apartments. We have been appointed to Design and Install the complete Mechanical and Electrical services and that design process is in its advanced stages allowing us to prepare for our start on site in August 2022.

This is our first project working with JRL Midgard Construction although we have a great track record and friendship with the people at JRL and we are looking to build on that relationship on this fantastic project together.

The building provides privately rented homes to help meet the growing demand for high quality homes in Manchester. This 24 story building has Amenity Spaces for residents including outdoor Roof Gardens, Residents Lounge, Bike Store and a Gym. We are working using sustainable technology of Low Carbon embodied materials and this is another project we are involved with in support of Manchester City Council move towards Zero Carbon buildings.

It is another project that allows us to deploy our local workforce and in partnership with JRL Midgard we will invest in the wider regeneration of Piccadilly East Neighbourhood through local spend initiatives, recruitment and training of new starters and new fully indentured Apprenticeships.

The glittering 10th anniversary event, held at The Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, was hosted by TV presenter and radio broadcaster Steve Hothersall, with an emotional welcome by the Fairclough family at the start of the evening, and a presentation from Consultant Neurosurgeon Professor Paul May about the Neuro VR Sim later that the night. There was also a film which showed the impact the event has made over the last 10 years, showcasing projects at the hospital which have benefited from the fundraising over the years.

Walton Centre Charity Golf Day

We were proud we entered a team in this years Walton Centre Charity Golf Day, @WaltonCentre and help in supporting the day by entering a team and sponsoring the Longest Drive competition on the 17th! The event raised just under £16,000 for the hospital, which as outlined by Professor Paul May on the evening, will go towards their Home from Home facility at the hospital. The money raised will ensure that approximately 266 families can stay for an average of 3 nights in their accommodation whilst their loved ones are receiving critical care at the hospital.

Since 2015, when they held their first Golf Day at Formby Golf Club, this event has raised an astonishing £86,000 and they simply couldn’t do it without everyone’s kind support and we are proud and honoured to be part of that support.

Delivering Net Carbon Office Development

Our journey to Design and Install Net Carbon Office Development has begun and we are excited and proud to be involved in this fantastic project.

Plot A3 is a new office development at New Bailey, which is part of ECF’s Salford Central scheme. ECF has a vision for the project to be as sustainable, energy and carbon efficient as possible, increasing biodiversity and creating a positive impact on society. The scheme is targeting net zero carbon in operation and will be designed in line with the UKGBC Net Zero Carbon Framework Definition. The design is currently meeting the UKGBC 2030 energy intensity target. The building will be one of the first in the UK to have its operational performance verified using the NABERS UK scheme, targeting a 5.5 star rating and is also set to be BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum.

Working with Bowmer + Kirkland will be another in our partnership together have already delivered New Bailey B2 and we are soon to start our operations on site on New Bailey B7.

We are working in partnership with Cundall Engineering Consultants in Manchester and we will learn so much on this journey on the Net Carbon requirements which enables us to say we have considerable experience on future similar and Net Carbon projects.

Apprentice of the Year Award for Willmott Dixon – Liam Comaish

It is great to receive recognition for all the hard work that anyone can put in and more often than not that hard work receives little acknowledgement.

So whem Willmott Dixon recognised the great efforts of Liam Comaish on their Merseyside Police Headquarters project it is something that is appreciated by us all. We applaud Willmott Dixon for watching Liams development as a young Electrician and for highlighting his great work with this award. We know this takes time and great endevour.

We are very proud of Liam and his award and he fully deserves this. So on behalf of so many of us here at A&B we say well done Liam. You make us all very proud.

We will continue to invest in our Apprenticeship programs and keep mentoring and training all our Engineers in everything they do. Our Business and our Industry needs great people like Liam and all our apprentices and in that respect the future is bright.

The Whitechapel Centre Makeover

We were please to be in a position to help with Plumbing and Electrical works when the Whitechapel Centre needed a makover of the Toilet and Shower Facilities. Working alongside Morgan Sindall Construction was a privalage to be involved and help wherever we can.

What does The Whitechapel Centre do?

The Whitechapel Centre works with individuals/households over the age of 16 who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, and/or require support services to enable them begin to address their housing and support needs. Wherever possible they work with individuals to prevent homelessness through the provision of housing and welfare rights advice and support; where prevention isn’t possible they work with individuals to identify and access new accommodation. They equip individuals with the skills and knowledge with which to set up and maintain a home in order that they may be helped to realise their full potential.

Their programmes are created and delivered solely by them as well as with the support of partner organisations. There are many strands to the work they do from providing basic needs such as washing and cleaning facilities to providing a range of housing, resettlement and supported housing services which aim to enable individuals to address housing and support needs. These include helping those who have education, employment, mental health or substance misuse needs. The range of problems their service users live with are complex, they run a whole spectrum of programmes that deal with their service user’s varied needs.

Reducing our Carbon Footprint

As part of our planned and developing Carbon Reduction Strategy, we have invested in three brand new Tesla Model 3 fully electric Cars. Each one for our respective Commissioning Manager, our After Sales Manager and our Quality Manager.

By investing in these vehicles we will reduce the carbon footprint per mile driven. And as Tesla vehicles are known to have the highest energy efficiency of any EV built to date we believe we are investing in the right product built by a company with a specific purpose we all want to be part of.

University of Salford – Science, Engineering and Environmental Building

We are very near the completion of our detailed Design process in respect of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Services at the new Science, Engineering and Environmental Building (SEE) at the University of Salford. The four storey building will be occupied by the University’s departments – Robotics, Built Environment, Civil Engineering, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Networking and Human and Natural Science.

The building will be fully electrical with renewable energy technology and achieve high sustainability credits with a target to achieve BREEAM Excellent.

We expect our installation to start in site in early spring 2021 and complete all our operations including full commissioning in Spring 2022.

Working in partnership with Morgan Sindall, Architects Sheppard Robson and ARUP Consultants this is indeed another exciting project that adds to our complete University and Engineering Facility portfolio and we are all immensely proud of our involvement.

Aura Student Accommodation – Liverpool – Works starts back on site

We are pleased to be back on site after the project stalled in January this year and we are picking up where we left off which is great news for all of us and all our supply chain partners.

Aura in Liverpool is a new development of 1007 Student Bedrooms built up over 5 Accommodation Blocks on the land adjacent the Grade II listed Bridewell Studios.

This is our first project working with Vermont and for Elliot Group and we are proud to be part of the team to design and install the complete Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Services on what we hope to be the first of many successful projects together.

Anticipated completed is Summer 2021.

The Spine Turns Blue for the NHS 72nd Birthday

Working alongside Morgan Sindall, Liverpool City Council, The Knowledge Quarter and all the team involved in this iconic project, we helped light up the building in blue in honour of the NHS 72nd birthday which was done to show appreciation of the NHS and all the wonderful people who work so hard, particularly this year, to help keep us all safe.

The Royal College of Physicians new £ 35 Million Northern Headquarters is being built by Morgan Sindall in partnership with Liverpool City Council in the Paddington Village scheme (Knowledge Quarter) in Liverpool.

The 160,000 sq ft building will be known as “ The Spine “ taking its name from a striking staircase on its north elevation that resembles the human vertebrae.

The building will be one of the healthiest workspaces for mental and physical wellbeing in the UK and among the first to achieve the international “ WELL “ Standard of modern building design.

The spine will feature a timber curtain wall designed to re-connect people with nature and a unique ceramic frit façade, complete with 23 Million unique Voronoi polygons that mimic human skin and reflect to the local environment to control noise and glare.

We have been appointed to Design and Install the complete Mechanical and Electrical services working alongside Morgan Sindall, ARUP and AHR Architects and Liverpool City Council. We are honoured to be involved on such an iconic special building and one we will be truly proud to help develop a magnificent project.

First Project with John Sisk Construction

The appointment by John Sisk Construction Limited to work with them on this new exciting Isle of Man Ferry Terminal is our first project we will work on together and one that we believe will be the first of many. Located at Princess Half Tide Dock on the Mersey the building will have a 2800m2 terminal building and will cater for the hundreds of thousands of passengers who travel each year between Liverpool and the Isle of Man (including our very own Alex Currie who will no doubt enjoy travelling through this fantastic new facility of his annual excursion to the TT’s on the IOM).

Another exciting project on our doorstep and one we are very much looking forward to working in partnership with John Sisk Construction and all of the team. This award will again allow us to deploy many of our local team to work on this site.

We have started on site at the new Force HQ for Merseyside Police

We are happy to have our site operations underway at the new Force Headquarters for Merseyside Police.

The appointment by Willmott Dixon is a huge celebration for us. This new £ 45 Million State-of-the-art facility for Merseyside Police Force is being built between Scotland Road and St Anne Street in Liverpool. The scheme has a main building and a smaller annex next door. The project designed by Ryder Architecture is another exciting project for us and help us to continue our vast experience in Blue Light schemes. It follows the successful delivery recently for us of other projects for Merseyside Police across Merseyside including OCC in Speke (12 Million M&E), Fleet HQ in Edge Lane (4 Million M&E) and the new Training Facility in Mather Avenue (Firing Range – £ 3 Million M&E) It is another one of many exciting projects we have undertaken in partnership with Willmott Dixon and we are loving every minute of it.

It is has been a long time coming in terms of getting activities started on site and our teams has spent considerable time working alongside Willmott Dixon to develop the design to where it is now. We are immensely proud to be working in collaboration with everyone involved and we believe this will truly be a magnificent building when it is completed in 2021.

We are celebrating the appointment by Morgan Sindall for us to provide all the Mechanical and Electrical Services on this new project currently underway at the Paddington Village Development. The 221 Bedroom Novotel Hotel has been designed by Ryder Architects is being built on the wider 450 Acre Knowledge Quarter Development. With the Mechanical and Electrical Services being designed by Steven Hunt Associates, this becomes another exciting project to add to our impressive Hotel Portfolio. This particular appointment, for the scheme on our doorstep, allows us to continue to deploy many of our people, all living in the vicinity and enables us to continue to recruit and train further apprentices for our business and industry needs, together with helping to work towards the targets required by Morgan Sindall and Liverpool City Council in terms of their local spend ambitions. This is a very exciting award for us and we are very proud indeed to be part of the team.

Erie Basin – Salford Quays – Handover

Erie Basin at Salford Quays achieved handover recently and it is something we are all very proud of. This is a sixteen storey 270 Apartment twin linked tower building. Working with Graham Construction on a project designed by Sheppard Robson Architects for Glenbrook Developments has been something we have all very much enjoyed. The £ 5.1 Million Mechanical and Electrical package was a traditional scheme in as much as we supplied and installed all sanitary, domestics, drainage and electrics to all 420 bathrooms, which meant we had a significant number of our team deployed on site.

This was another scheme in partnership with Graham Construction and a further high rise mixed use project completed throughout the north west.

It was a huge celebration for us to be awarded North West Sub-Contractor of the year 2019, at Morgan Sindall’s inaugural supply chain fund raising and Awards evening, which was held at the Mercure Hotel Haydock. We were equally proud to also receive the North West Social Value Contributor award 2019 at the same event. This particular award was in recognition of our partnership in working with Morgan Sindall to ensure all our local employment, apprenticeship recruitment and community commitments were achieved.

Having recently completed the complete Mechanical and Electrical services at the new flagship OCC for Merseyside Police in Speke, the new Firing Range in Mather Avenue and our current site operations on Paddington Village Liverpool and the new Student Centre and Sports Hall for LJMU at Copperas Hill, we were absolutely delighted to get these very prestigious awards.

We cherish our relationships and friendships we have built over many years with all the teams at Morgan Sindall and we look forward to many more successful partnerships for many years to come.

First Project with Russell Construction

We are celebrating the news of our first project together with Russell Construction on this new build project. We have been appointed to Design and Install the complete Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Services to this 18 storey 329 Bedroom Hotel for Clayton Hotels on Portland Street in Manchester. Our Contract Value in excess of £ 6 Million. The building designed by Leach Rhodes Walker and WSP Consultants will be completed in 2021 and when completed will add to our impressive Hotel Development portfolio throughout the North West.

We are confident that this will be the first of many projects in partnership with Russell Construction and we look forward o developing our relationship.

Snowdon Challenge July 2018

On a glorious sunny morning in July 2018 a large number of us set off for a fun filled day of fund raising and team bonding. We had opted to take the Pyg Track knowing this would be more challenging. If you have never been to Snowdon or attempted this walk / climb then we can highly recommend that you do. We had an amazing day and one we are sure we will all cherish for years to come and look back on how good a day that was. What made it special is that we raised close to £4,000 for our chosen charity which was Old Swan Youth Club. A wonderful organisation who have been supporting young people for almost 100 years and only next door but one to us in Derby Lane.

We sometimes catch ourselves looking up at Snowdon, remembering the changes of fortune in our long voyage, thinking of the thousands of people who worked to bring all of us home. I look up at Snowdon, and wonder: When will we be going back? And who will that be?

Donating the complete Electrical Installation

Claire House Children’s Hospice in Liverpool has been transformed on some of its grounds into a series of themed Den’s through the Children’s BBC (CBBC) programme The Dengineers. We are immensely proud to have been fortunate to be involved by donating the complete supply and installation of all the Electrical Services required to this amazing and thoroughly exciting project on our doorstep.

The themes range from Fairground to Disco and the Den’s also have their very own Wheelchair Accessible Zip Wire.

This truly is a playground like no other allowing all the children at the Hospice to play and have access to all the Den’s.

Claire House Children’s Hospice helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full by creating wonderful experiences and bringing back a sense of normality to family life. By providing specialist nursing care and emotional support they help families smile again when life couldn’t get any tougher.

A&B Engineering have been supporting Claire House for may years championed by Andy Stanley and Paul Kennils who have ran and cycled half the world raising considerable funds for the amazing charity that is very close to our hearts. We will continue to strive to help and fundraise wherever we can for many years to come.

We are celebrating the news of our appointment by Carillion to undertake the complete Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Design and Installation of all services to the next phase of Ask Real Estates Grade A office building on their First Street Development in Manchester. The seven storey fully Air Conditioned building, designed by Fletcher Priest Architects and Cundall Mechanical and Electrical Consultants will have 157,000 sqft of office space and 14,000 sqft of retail units.

Gazprom – the global Energy company have agreed to take the 5th and 6th floors and our works will encompass their specific fit out requirements.

Our appointment includes for our full design and we will undertake full BIM Modelling Level 2 that will be drawn and designed by our in-house BIM technicians and designers. Services we will install would be:

External Gas and Water, Power Distribution, Sub-metering, Lightning Protection, Internal and External Lighting, Lighting Controls, Lightening Protection, Fire Alarms, Intruder Alarms, CCTV, DATA, Standby Generator, Disabled Refuge, Access Control, Fire Detection, VRF Heating and Cooling, Smoke Ventilation Systems, Ventilation Installation, Kitchen Extract, Internal Gas Distribution, Hot and Cold Water Services, Sanitary and Above Ground Drainage, Rainwater Systems, Thermal Insulation, Dry Risers, Car Park Ventilation, Commissioning and Building Management Systems (BMS)

This £ 5.3 Million Mechanical and Electrical package adds to our extensive portfolio of office experience in and around the north west. It is a further project with Carillion and one where we can continue with our excellent working relationship and work alongside all the team to help deliver a very safe, reliable and quality service throughout the programme.

Low Carbon Energy Assessor Accreditation

Phil Godfrey is now an Accredited Low Carbon Energy Assessor in all Levels Performance Certificates after working very hard indeed to achieve this qualification. The examinations that were sat at CIBSE Headquarters in London were the IES Virtual Environmental Software and then Phil had to undertake further examinations which he sat in Manchester to attain the Energy Performance Certificates and Low Carbon Consultant Design training.

This is tremendous news for Phil and us as a business as this accreditation allows us to undertake complex energy analysis in the design development of our projects in-house.

We are very proud indeed of Phil’s achievement here and adds to the fantastic work Phil has been undertaking in respect of our Design Department, including recently – Rhyl High School with Willmott Dixon, Oldham Leisure Centre again with Willmott Dixon and the recently completed Ellesmere Port Leisure Centre recently completed with Wates Construction.

The 3D images adjacent here are some of the very special work Phil has carried out and in particularly the 3D Modelling required under our BIM obligations are testimony to Phil and his departments hard work and determination and with such dynamic and enthusiastic people such as Phil the Company has a very bright future.

Phase I Handover a Piece of Cake ..

Phase one handover of this £ 35 Million construction project has been achieved and some could say ” It was a piece of cake ” as Kevin Sykes found who was the Project Director for the scheme and also the Chef who made this very artistic cake as a celebration for the team on its achievement. In truth it was not as easy as this would suggest. It was a very difficult project with extensive services being installed and with an overall tight programme to be achieved. So to get this stage handed over was a testament to all our people of all disciplines working hand in hand with BAM Construction and with whom we enjoyed working with very much indeed.

And so now we plough on with Phase 2 with a target completion in 2016 and we are relishing the challenges this brings.

The £ 35 Million construction project is now transforming the hospitals emergency and urgent care services, creating the most modern Emergency Department in the region and offering state-of-the-art facilities for patients

Around 85,000 patients are treated at Aintree’s Emergency Department every year, and this hospital, along with the Royal Liverpool Hospital and the Walton Centre, forms the Cheshire and Merseyside Major Trauma Centre collaborative. When complete it will provide a world class facility offering care for the most seriously ill patients. The new development when it is complete in 2016 will be a two storey building for the Emergency Department, Critical Care, Cardiology Departments and a Fracture Clinic. The centre will have more diagnostic equipment to help provide swifter treatment to patients. Phase I involved the installation of the following services : Phase 2 has similar services.

Electric Mains Distribution, New Generator Installation, General and Emergency Lighting, Nurse Call, Bedhead Pendant and Trunking, Door Access, CCTV Installation, Heating and Ventilation, Public Health, Sanitary Fittings, Steam and Condensate, VRF Cooling, Medical Gases, Gas Distribution, Replacement Theatre Air Handling Plant, Hot and Cold Water, Building Management Systems, Chilled Water Installation, Thermal Insulation and full Commissioning and setting to work all services.

Working alongside BAM Construction on a scheme designed by Steven Hunt Associates we are providing all the above over a two year on site programme and when complete will be another impressive Health Sector project

Stockport Exchange is a flagship development which will include a 115 bed hotel and 50,000 sq ft five storey office building with ground floor retail space and a new public space. This project by Muse Developments in partnership with Stockport Council will bring new jobs and opportunities for local residents and businesses in the area.We are delighted at the appointment by Eric Wright Construction for us to design and install the complete Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing services, which will include :

It is a further project with Eric Wright Construction and a project where we can continue with our excellent working relationship and our growing portfolio of providing, safe, high quality projects together and this is something we are all very proud of indeed here at A&B.

The scheme with be another project being designed and drawn in 3D using the Revit platform and adds to our very impressive portfolio of completed BIM schemes.

We are about to commence our operations on site on this fantastic project at Manchester Business School for Bruntwood Developments. The project includes the complete design and installation of all the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Services on both the 19 storey building which will be two Hotels and the Executive Education Centre. The EEC will provide a new home for the business schools corporate leadership and management programmes.

The hotel will provide a perfect location for all the business school visitors being located in the heart of Manchester. The landmark development designed by Architects BDP and Leach Rhodes Walker will provide high end accommodation. Both Crown Plaza (210 Rooms) and Staybridge Suites (116 Rooms) will operate under a franchise agreement with the owners. We have been fortunate to get the appointment to provide the following services:

The appointment by Bowmer and Kirkland for us to Design and Install the complete Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing services will be our first project working together and one that is hugely exciting for us all. The project will have a total of 112nr Hotel Bedrooms on floors 7 to 10 whilst floors 1 to 6 will comprise of office accommodation. The ground floor will accommodate the Media Hub together with Hotel entrance, lobby, and reception together with restaurant and kitchens too. The Media Hub is expected to be an attractive resource for business users and the local economy and will include hosting work stations, meetings and conference events. We will Design and Install the following services:

VRF Heating and Cooling, Sprinkler Systems, Ventilation Services, Hot and Cold Water, Sanitary and Above Ground Drainage, LPHW Heating, Smoke Extract Systems, Building Management System, Thermal Insulation, Water Treatment and Chlorination, Lighting and Emergency Lighting, Small Power, Fire Detection and Fire Alarm, Gas Extinguishing, Lightning Protection, Telecomms and Data, Intruder Alarm, CCTV, Door Access, PA/VA, Panic Attack Systems, Hearing Loop, Earthing and Bonding, Mains and Sub Mains Distribution, Commissioning and Client Demonstrations.

This is a fantastic scheme that will add to our portfolio of Hotels and Office schemes and what we hope is the first of many successful projects with Bowmer and Kirkland. It allows us deploy many of our local workforce and supply chain partners together with helping development of some of our long term Apprentices.

Another project Designed and Drawn in 3D (Revit) as a BIM scheme and our design included production of Building Thermal Model.

It was another proud day for our team on Project Pluto as we were awarded ” Best Internal Works Contractor ” by Morgan Sindall at an awards ceremony on site recently. It was particularly special for Elliott Griffiths and Alan Murphy who were both presented with awards in recognition of their efforts and for that they were nominated as ” Best Site Supervisors “. These awards are very well received by us all at A&B as it demonstrates an appreciation of the efforts of our whole team, by so many, in making this project the success that it has been. Well done Elliott and Alan and indeed the many people from start to finish who put their heart and soul into this project.

It was a flagship project for us working with Morgan Sindall to complete the design, install and commissioning of the Mechanical and Electrical Services for this new fantastic Headquarters for Matalan. It was an exciting project for us to deploy many of our directly employed workforce on the site, the majority of whom live in Knowsley and gives further opportunities to our new and long standing Apprentices. The project designed by Fletcher Rae Architects and Hannan Associates Mechanical and Electrical Consultants, achieved BREEAM “Very Good” Rating, and the services we installed were :

We are over the moon with the appointment by Eric Wright Construction for us to Design and Install the complete Mechanical and Electrical Services to this brand new four storey office block in Wirral Enterprise Zone. The 48,000 sq ft development is tremendous news for us as a business and with it being on our doorstep we have the opportunity to deploy many of our direct employed workforce on this site as well as the opportunity for our supply chain that allows us to achieve the required local spend. Services we will design and install include:

External Lighting, Main Switchgear, Internal Lighting, Power Distribution, Induction Loops, Fire Alarms, Disabled Refuge, Voice and Data Installation, Door Access, CCTV, Intruder Alarm, Lightning Protection, Photovoltaics, Earthing and Bonding, External Gas and Water, LPHW Heating Installation, Hot and Cold Water, Ventilation Installation, Comfort Cooling, Sanitary Fittings, Above Ground Drainage, Building Management System, Thermal Insulation, Commissioning, Client Demonstrations and Handover.

Rhyl High School – North Wales

Rhyl and District Intermediate High School was founded in 1894. In 1901 the school was relocated to Grange Road and became Rhyl County School. It subsequently became Rhyl Grammar School after the war and finally was re-named as Rhyl High School. Now a £ 25 Million new school is underway and we have been appointed by Willmott Dixon to undertake the Design and Installation of the complete Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing services. This state-of-the-art facility will accommodate 1200 pupils as well as providing a base for Ysgol Tir Morfa which is a Community Special School which caters for pupils with a range of additional learning needs.

We have committed to a considerable level of local spend and with our network of trade parters and merchants within the vicinity we can achieve what is expected. We have many of our operatives who reside within the area and new recruits will join our team of Fitters, Plumbers and Electricians to enable us to deliver a very safe, competitive and high quality installation.

This £ 3.7 Million Mechanical and Electrical package enables us to continue with our exciting ambitions and gives confidence to continue with the high level of Apprentice intakes including potential candidates from Rhyl and surrounding area. With a start on site for us in March 2015 we expect to Commission and Handover in late 2015.

Works underway at St Hildas

At the recent LABC Building Excellence Awards at the Reebok Stadium De Vere Whites Hotel ( Another one of our previous Projects), we are proud to be part of the team that won the Best Education Building for Stanley Special School in Pensby Wirral.

We were appointed to design and install the complete Mechanical and Electrical Services Installation and is a further testament to our Design Team together with our Operational Team of Engineers, Plumbers, Fitters and Electricians. Also with our numerous Apprentices we deployed on this scheme and our dedicated supply chain partners.

Working alongside Wates Construction and all the team to help deliver this award winning building was a pleasure to be involved with. This job followed on from we we did previously together on Toxteth Fire Fit in Liverpool, which was our first project with Wates Construction. We have since go on to secure the appointment as the Mechanical and Electrical Contractor on EPIC (Ellesmere Port Leisure Centre) which is going very well indeed and is a reflection of the efforts being made across the board and we are excited as our relationship goes from strength to strength.

St Hilda’s Church of England High School was established in 1894 and is a State School for girls aged 11 to 18 but will be a mixed school for girls and boys when it moves to this new building later in 2015. The new £ 16 Million five storey new build complex will include state-of-the-art facilities including a new Sports Hall and two outdoor Sports Areas. Working with Mouchel Consultants we will design and install the complete Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing services, including :

Underfloor Heating including Screed and Insulation, Kitchen Ventilation, Supply and Extract Ventilation, Natural Gas, Natural Ventilation Systems, Sprinkler System, Fire Fighting, Sanitary and Above Ground Drainage, Building Management Systems, Commissioning and Client Demonstrations, Lighting and Emergency Lighting, External Lighting, Telecommunications and Data, Fire Alarm, Induction Loops, PA System, CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Alarm, Lightning Protection, Commissioning and Handover Documentation.

Another project for us on the doorstep and working with Morgan Sindall where we are now a Strategic Partner on their supply chain is tremendous news for all of us at A&B and we will deliver the £ 2.6 Million Mechanical and Electrical package with completion in Summer 2015.

Oldham Leisure Centre

We are delighted at the appointment by Willmott Dixon for us to design and install the complete Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing services to this brand new £ 15 Million flagship Leisure Centre in Oldham. The development will include a Swimming Pool, Learner Pool, Fitness Studio, Changing Facilities, Cafe, eight court Sports Hall, Sauna, Steam Room, 250 Spectator Seating Gallery, Spinning Studio and a Four-Rink Indoor Bowls Hall.

As with our current project underway with Willmott Dixon at Oldham College it gives us an opportunity to deploy a number of our workforce who reside in Oldham. It also allows us to fulfill our commitments to create fully indentured Apprenticeships locally that adds to our already considerable number of Apprentices currently employed by us. We can also engage with our Oldham and Manchester based supply chain and all components and specialist trade partners will benefit from being appointed on a scheme on their doorstep.

This £ 2.2 Million Mechanical and Electrical package adds to our previous experience of Leisure Centres, having previously completed similar works in Preston, Bromborough and Nottingham and is very similar to our current Leisure Centre being delivered at Ellesmere Port (EPIC). We are expecting to Commission and Handover the project late 2015.

It was another very proud day to be a awarded Willmott Dixon’s Regional Sub Contractor of the Year 2014 at the recent Supply Chain Conference & Awards including best site supervisor, where Stuart Hebblethwaite was a nominee for his endeavours on the Kings Road School Project and we were also nominee for the Pre- Construction Award together with a similar close call for the Contractor most committed to Training and Development.

However, it was the final Sub Contractor of the year award that we managed to land and this was a huge achievement for all of us at A&B together with our Supply Chain that equally helped us to achieve this status. A big well done to all our team in design, delivery and our operational team of directly employed long serving Plumbers, Fitters and Electricians that are deployed on all Willmott Dixon Sites.

We are also proud to be part of the team that helped deliver the Notre Dame Catholic College in Liverpool that Won the Willmott Dixon Award for the Best Site. In the summer of 2014 we were honoured to be part of the delegation to attend the Construction News Awards at the London Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane where Notre Dame Catholic College was a nominee for Project of the Year.

Eight New Apprentices Have been Recruited over the summer at A&B. Whilst we have as a company, always trained apprentices ( Many of the Directors, Managers, Engineers and all the Operational Team have started their working life with the company) this fresh intake pushed the total numbers of Craft and Technical Apprentices to 36nr. The new Apprentices will work alongside our team on some of the fantastic schemes we are involved with, throughout the North West and nationally and in particularly in Liverpool and Merseyside. We are recruiting further for projects in Oldham and North Wales and we have been encouraged by Liverpool Council and Liverpool in Work and in Oldham, Rochdale and North Wales to recruit where we can. Our increase business optimism working on local construction projects has allowed us to pursue our exciting ambitions for the long term benefit of us all at A&B and indeed our industry’s benefit,

The confirmation that the recent project at Liverpool Science Park achieved the status of Perfect Delivery ( Which Morgan Sindall’s continuous improvement strategy) is great news for us at A&B Engineering. As a business we will now be promoted to strategic Partner which is the highest status we can achieve as a supply chain partner. This promotion to Strategic Partner has been given in part due to the fact we have been involved with four schemes that have all been fortunate to achieve Perfect Delivery.

The Spuds are rolling in with the appointment by Lend Lease for us to provide the complete Mechanical and Electrical services to this once moth balled residential block. it is our first time we have worked together with lend lease and we hope it is the start of a long lasting and fruitful relationship.

There will be 102 Apartments, with a mix of one and two bedroom, all of which will be fully fitted out. There is a basement car park with Ventilation, Drainage and Lighting, together with communal areas throughout.

Whole House ventilation, Hot and Cold water services,Dry Riser Installation, Car Park Ventilation, Sanitary, Fittings, Above Ground Drainage, General Power, Fire Alarm,TV Arial and Satellite Systems, Door Entry, Access Control, Telephone Installation, Lighting Protection, Electric Heating and External Lighting Scheme.

The Scheme will be fully complete and commissioned at the end of 2014 and adds to our impressive portfolio of Residential Schemes.

At the recent Sporting Speaker of the Year held at Chester Racecourse our staff and guests enjoyed a fantastic day and night out with the superb entertainment listening to celebrity speakers Jan Molby, Steve Davis and Gareth Chilcott.

The event sponsored by A&B Engineering was a huge success and was won on he day by Jan Molby, who just pipped Steve Davis and Gareth Chilcott.

It had to be said the three guest speakers were all amazing and were all great company who were comfortable and gave so much time talking and mixing with all the guests and they helped make it a day to remember…hic!!

Embracing BIM

Stephen Burns has recently joined our team and he is a perfect addition to the company. Steve will work within the Design Department and brings with him specialist skills that will enhance our BIM Modelling Capacity.

Whilst we have considerable experiences in 3D Modelling on previous schemes, we feel with greater number of projects we are working on requiring BIM, we needed to invest in updated software, licences and computers and Steve’s appointment is helping push us on in this area.

Airbus at Broughton Chester is a huge success for manufacturing in the region and as a national treasure and we are justifiably proud to be working for such a world famous organisation. We plan to deliver, with our emphasis on safety, quality, reliability and to deliver the whole scheme in the short programme period. We will install the following service :

Helium and Lab Gases, Compressed Air, Sprinkler Installation, Internal Gas, Building Management Systems, VRF Air Conditioning, Ventilation Systems, Hot and Cold Water, Public Health, Sanitary Fittings, Air Curtains, LV Distribution, General Power, Access Control, Security and Fire, Data Transmission, Emergency Lighting and the supply and installation of specialist wing pit hoists and lifts. Thermal Insulation and full Commissioning and Handover.

This is such an exciting opportunity within a 15m high factory space, working over constructed wing pits over a very short construction programme and we expect to have this full completed, commissioned and handed over by late October 2013. It will allow us to deploy a considerable number of our directly employed workforce and gives further opportunities and experience for our Apprentices,

Marathon Des Sables is ranked by many as the toughest foot race on earth. It’s the equivalent of running five and a half marathons in five or six days in temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Andy Stanley and his friends completed this as part of their year long fund raising events named ” The Toughest Year Yet ” and Andy has so far raised almost £ 6,000.00 in this year alone in aid of the Claire House Children’s Hospice

The recent appointment by Willmott Dixon Construction for us to carry out the Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical Services on this new School for Notre Dame Catholic College, is a perfect order for all our team here at A&B. It allows us to deploy a great number of our work force, the majority of who all reside in Liverpool, on this scheme for the duration. It also allows us to continue with our long standing policy of recruitment and training of apprentices in both craft and technical fields and some of whom will be employed on this project through to completion.

Works Get Underway at United

Works have commenced at our £ 1.5 Million Mechanical and Electrical contract at Manchester United’s Carrington Training Ground. Whilst we have worked at this famous centre on previous occasions, this is our first time in many years that we have worked with Eric Wright Construction . We hope this is the start of a long and lasting working relationship.

Our works involve various installations of Mechanical and Electrical to Entrance Lodge, Visitors Centre, Sponsors Viewing, 1st Team Training, Car Park and to Caged Pitches.

It is a fantatstic scheme, designed by Hannan Associates with whom we have enjoyed many years of working together.

The scheme is due for completion later this year.
