About HSE

Health and Safety is of paramount importance to us at A&B Engineering. We value the safety of all our staff, both on and off site and make the safety of any person affected by their actions a priority over all other issues. With this in mind, we have invested heavily both from personal commitment & financially in Health and Safety since establishment. We are CHAS and SSIP /Constructionline-PAS91 accredited and more recently we achieved Acclaim Accreditation and RoSPA Members and have implemented the following: Our dedicated SH & E Manager, Mr Les Malcolm, has over forty years construction industry experience and is a Registered Member of the Association of Project Safety (RMaPS) and a Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (MIOSH). All our Contracts Managers and Senior Site Managers & Supervisors are CITB SMSTS/SSSTS or IOSH Qualified and are responsible for Project health and Safety. We have ensured that all their Health and Safety Policy and Safety Management Systems are in line with OSAS 18001 and compliant with HSG65 guidelines. All our projects undergo a recorded, auditable site inspection carried out by their Health and Safety Manager on a four weekly basis. Over ninety percent of our Site Operatives have been trained to be appointed First Aiders. This commitment goes a long way towards providing the maximum amount of employee safety at all times. All labour directly employed by us hold the appropriate CSCS cards. Our company have never received an advisory notices from the HSE (Prohibition Notice, Improvement Notice etc.). We work in line with the HSE and industry best practice guidance and regulations, we as a company actively encourage their participation and advice.

HSE Principles

Our goals for 2020 are to continue to enhance our existing SMS achieve ISO 45001 (previously OHSAS 18001)certification. At site level we are currently, in line with CITB best practice guidelines, issuing CITB one day safety training to accompany the CSCS card status and enhance the standard of safety management at operative level. As well as the CITB SSMST / SSSTS training our current basic issued competency safety training includes:

  • Annually refreshed manual handling procedures
  • Working at height
  • IPAF (all classes) including PAV
  • FFP3 (RPE) face fit certification
  • Abrasive wheels
  • Fire Warden
  • First Aid
  • IOSH for Executives (Director level)
  • Annually refreshed asbestos awareness
  • PASMA
  • HAV awareness and management
  • Confined spaces (Low risk)
  • Slinger / Banks Man
  • Face Fit RPE testing to 100% of our workforce.
  • Design risk management (Design Dept)
